The Fibula

Based on the safety pin design, Fibulas were highly decorative clothing fasteners developed in the early medieval times. For use on cloaks back in the day, in contemporary times its main use has become the shawl or scarf pin.
The designs here represent my influence from the Roycroft Antiques. Raised in Cow Country just outside of East Aurora, NY, Roycroft furniture was everywhere. My love of quarter sawn oak and copper has never faded. There was even a bead store across the street where as young girls we could buy beads out of trays and trays of old printer boxes and jute-by-the-yard for our macrame projects.
It only made sense to use some of those beads in these copper designs.

All pieces are hand forged from solid copper wire.
